The Cumming School of Medicine's Pathways to Medicine Program empowers students across Alberta to overcome obstacles and achieve success towards a fulfilling career in Medicine. The health-care landscape in Alberta and beyond is undergoing profound transformation, driven by evolving demographics, an aging population, and rapid technological advancements. This transformation requires professionals who not only possess exceptional skills but also embody compassion and reflect the diverse communities they serve. However, systemic barriers—such as financial challenges, limited mentorship, and a focus on traditional career pathways—still prevent many talented individuals from entering the medical field. This creates an inequitable system that struggles to attract, nurture and retain a diverse workforce, exacerbating disparities in care and outcomes.
